The memorial is about seventy kilometres west of Kraków at Oświęcim. Entry to the grounds is free, but from spring to autumn you can only go in with an educator, and those timed slots are taken well in advance. The 15 tours below differ on transport, group size, guide language and whether the Birkenau site is included. Allow three and a half hours inside the two sites, and about three more on the road.

So kind picking us up from our hotel and showing as a documentary about Auschwitz during our travels. “An important place to visit. A really moving and meaningful day, the guide was knowledgable and easy to follow. The stories are harrowing and will stay on your mind long after. The transportation was comfortable albeit very long, we ended up waiting for around 20 minutes after our coach arrived as someone was late, despite stating they would only wait 5 mins so this unfortunately added to everyone else’s already long day. “Please do not go on this tour. It was advertised as 11am, and the day before the tour (therefore past the time we could cancel and claim a refund), we were told the time had changed to 4.15am. Whilst the advert does say the start time is subject to change, a 7 hour difference in start time is beyond the realms of being acceptable. Looking at other reviews, this tour company often does this, advertising a reasonable start time and then changing it the evening before, so a refund can’t be requested. The Royal Tours guides gave clear instructions on where to meet, they had a bus waiting for us to take us to Birkenau and back. They called when we decided to leave directly from Birkenau and I appreciated that they were looking out for us!”
